Need me to cooperate and
Require trust to allow its natural flow
Will find its way sometimes slower than others
Will decide if it wants to be an abstract piece or abstract landscape or seascape and either are fine

I’m sure I’ve realized this before but working on this painting reminded me how effortless things can materialize once I align to my truth.

It was a fun experiment working on these circular wood panels.

I do love working with dark colours while searching for balance. I think that’s how I generally view life - even amist the dark situations there is often something that gives us hope or understanding which may not be evident at the time but no doubt there.

Maybe that’s where this bright yellow comes into play which is a reminder of this balance. This section also has its own presence yet contrasts beautifully with the X in the top left corner. Is it an X though? Or a cross or a kiss even?

When I paint I don’t have a set plan from the begi When I paint I don’t have a set plan from the beginning to the end. I’ll usually feel drawn to certain colours so that’s my starting point and during the painting process I use a variety of mediums to find something that is interesting to me. Somewhere in this play of building layers (and removing too) things start to take shape. The tricky bit is knowing when to stop!
I usually stop when there isn’t anything that is bothering me with it. I then varnish and call it finished.

This painting is titled ‘Thinking of Marrakech’ and it reminds me of
those leisurely early morning strolls through markets - something that I love to do in every place I visit. Where lanterns and colourful fabrics hang in doorways and the smell of coffee wafting through the air.

This piece gave me a run for my money as I toyed This piece gave me a run for my money as I toyed back and forth searching for balance.
I seek to find beauty in everything even when things get challenging. And it is this balance of complexity, tension, hope and playfulness that I was trying to bring forth.

After many layers of paint, oil sticks and collage only to be sanded back and reworked adding more dollops of colour and watery layers it was finally resolved.

Happy to say Floating On My Time was chosen for the OPEN26 exhibition.

Come see it in person along with other paintings and ceramics by some incredible artists.

All welcome. Saturday 27th June 2-5pm.
