I would often leave my paintings around the house I would often leave my paintings around the house in places where I would get frequent glimpses of them. This helps me obtain ideas for the next step and when there isn’t anything else that I’d like to change, they would return to the studio one more time for the finishing process.

I also temporarily pop them into frames to get an idea of how they would look when they’re ready to hang and also decide on what colour frames to paint them. So far I’m liking this off white colour.

Today these ones eventually made it back into the studio for varnishing which means that I’m satisfied to the point of calling them finished!

Hope I don’t jinx myself now!
Making a start on these after the first layer of c Making a start on these after the first layer of collage I did yesterday.

Here are three sections that are getting my attention. First one - I love the unevenness and those textured bumps. In the second pic I’m liking the sharp thin lines and the bit of text peeping through and in the third pic I like the subtle gradation of colors on the right.

I’m contemplating sanding back to reveal some more collage tomorrow as I’m curious to see what lies underneath but I want to keep the texture in the first pic!

Any texture fans out there? How much texture is “too much”?!
I’ve been thinking of a new spring palette and f I’ve been thinking of a new spring palette and found a tube of phthalo green that I won’t dare use on its own as it’s such an unnatural colour that won’t be found in nature. I mixed it with nickel azo yellow and loved the bright spring green it made. I also made swatches with warmer colours for balance and hopefully will settle on a palette tomorrow.

Too eager to get going, but not enough time to paint today I decided to collage a few panels ready for my spring palette. It would mostly be covered up but it gives me something to respond to.

Hope you’re keeping well and having a good weekend.
I looked around the studio this morning and the am I looked around the studio this morning and the amount of unfinished work was a bit overwhelming. I have a stack of cut out shapes from printed sheets which I’d planned on assembling into an art piece.
I have panels leaned up against the wall waiting to be listed on my website,
a recently completed mini collection awaiting framing and I had this piece which I decided to work on.

It wasn’t too far from the end but it needed simplifying. I sanded some of the writing making it less bold but you can still see some of the full words closeup. I added warmth to the lower right corner and pushed back some of the heavily contrasted bits so the eyes could roam freely. I was happy to finish this one today.
It will now join the others on the “to add to website” list and will then be available to purchase.

I hope you are having a good week and you’re not juggling too much!
Working on these minis has brought me so much joy. Working on these minis has brought me so much joy. I rarely set off to paint landscapes but when I returned from hiking in the Yorkshire moors I just had to download what was in my mind’s eye.
I find a lot of beauty in the bleakness of the landscape and wanted to keep to a muted limited palette to illustrate this.
