From snow to studio

From snow to studio

Storm Arwen made its presence felt last weekend and what a delight she was!

Having been raised in the Caribbean witnessing snow meant holidaying abroad. Since moving to the UK I’ve only experienced snow on a couple of occasions so you can imagine my excitement when I woke up on Sunday morning to a white garden! My partner and I quickly decided to take a trip further down the coast so off we left before it even got light.

It was such a magical experience walking along a snow covered beach and to fully appreciate it I decided to sit for a moment. In these noisy times we’re living in it was a great opportunity to welcome calm to my day and with a gentle breeze passing by and sounds of the waves rolling in there was no need to rush.

When I returned home I made some sketches to remind me of this moment. I particularly loved the neutrals as seen below as they offer room for contemplation and set alongside the dark contrasts you get a sense of movement from the grasses and the ocean. I used mostly acrylic paint but some marks are from water soluble pencils.
